peech therapists can provide services to people with neurological or degenerative conditions as well as to elderly people with dementia or Alzheimer's disease. Difficulties with swallowing, speaking and understanding are some of the problems examined. In cases where lag of communication and speech occurs, speech therapists seek to develop effective communication codes between the patient and his /her environment to facilitate the day-to-day activities of the patient.
After the patient's history is recorded, diagnosis is made and appropriate treatment is recommended.
